Measuring the front from bottom to top of lid is 16 inches. Measuring the back from floor to hightest point center including the back rail is 28 3/4

It appears to be solid wood. It is quite heavy. The box weighed 65 pounds. Very nice product.

Is this as dark as it looks in the pic?
I am am trying to match the dark cherry furniture my grandson has in his room. I ordered the Guidecraft chest in cherry but when I received it it was too not the cherry color that matches my grandson's room. IT LOOKED NOTHING LIKE THE PIC ON THIS WEBSITE. I WAS TRUELY DISAPPOINTED. It was more a orangy color. My grandson's dark cherry furniture is a redish color. Is the color of this chest as dark as it looks or is it lighter?

It is a very dark cherry color, not reddish at all. The stain and varnish were not applied well to mine, however. I had to return it.
