You can steer it off the the track and it does not go in reverse.

I think you will find this train fast enough, you child will come off on corners as they sometimes lean the right way and sometimes, the wrong way.

Yes there is but it is not cheap.

Peg Perego do sell track at about $60 for enough to make a figure ight.

You can check on Toysrus website. They had some extra track, figure 8, i believe right now that it is not available but they can email you and let you know when it arrives. Hope that helps you out.
