I used it about once a week. After a few months it started blowing everything it sucked up back out. You need to clean the filters and canister every time you use it and be sure to do it outside or you'll have a bigger mess than before you vacuumed.

Hi, I'm a housekeeper with 11 clients. Most have dogs/cats. I have used Bissell products exclusively for over 6 years. I like the washable filters and quickly wiping the canisters because my next client's house doesn't smell like the last. The filters dry very quickly (2 hours in the air, <20minutes in a dryer. Do not use fabric softener as it will clog the filters. The lower price Bissells are light weight and and last me about a year but keep in mind the abuse mine take and the minor wipe-downs I do daily.

The key is MAINTENANCE. I bought this in Jan. 2010, so I've had it just over a year now. The filters need to be taken out and washed about every 10 uses, or you lose major suction. The first few times I cleaned the filters, it didn't bother me (other than sneezing for an hour afterward). But now that I've had it over a year, I'm sick and tired of the continuous maintenance this vacuum requires. The round, pleated filter beneath the dirt cup takes 3 DAYS to dry before the whole kit'n kaboodle can be put back together and used again! Good grief! This vacuum demands WAY too much of the user. I'll be going back to an old-school bagged vacuum as soon as I can afford to.

The life of any unit will vary based on usage, maintenance of the unit, and what conditions the unit is used in. Regularly emptying the dirt cup and cleaning and replacing the filters will help the life of the unit.

Its loud and noisy. It picks up well for about 4 months then it seems to go downhill from there. Some things are worth paying for. I went with a dyson ball after this bissel and wow! Why didnt I do that ages ago. Its amazing how much easier housework is with a good vacum.

Question

Are the wheels squeaking on anyone else's?

After the first 1-1/2 hours of use, the two height-adjustable wheels (the smaller, but wide ones underneath right behind the roller brush bar) began squeaking loudly. Bissell customer service told me to "use a small amount of vegetable oil" on the wheels. Good grief, it's brand new!

Have any other owners had this squeaking problem? Thanks.

Yes.....they squeaked from the first time I used the vacuum and still do..

This is NOT a good vacuum...After using mine once a week for less than a year the motor makes a horrible sound, the height adjustment doesn't work, one of large wheels has come loose and is about to fall off, and I'm throwing mine out in the garbage...

This is the worst vacuum I have ever owned....and a total waste of money.

Believe it or not, I take mine to a car wash vacuum and suck all the dirt/dust out of any crevice. For the hose, I turn the shower on hot, and let it run through the hose, the stretch it out to get crevices.

It hasn't yet. If it did, though, the hose can be removed from the body of the vacuum so you could probably remove any obstruction.

Depending on on much dirt you pick up , I would say to clean it at least 2x a month. It's a matter of dusting it off really good outside. But buying one, I would wait abt 6-7 months. That's what we did with our previous bagless Bissell.

We bought an extra filter and foam cover for it and wash them weekly letting the first set dry until the following week. If you take the filter out, and the foam piece that covers it, wash them both and let them dry well, then put them back in, I think you should have good results.

Yes the filter needs replacing optimally 2x a year. You can wash it and should but best to replace it at least once a year. Walmart sells them and they cost @ $10. Also the HEPA filter in front should be replaced 1x a year. Its now made by Arm & Hammer and also sold at Walmart.

How do i clean the filter?

2 filters are under dust cup; remove dust cup; then, top 2/3 of cup unscrews from bottom 1/3 and filter is inside and is removed for cleaning. Do it in good lighting, instructions are formed into the plastic

There are 4 filters in this vac. They are washable & should be checked every few weeks. 1 filter is on the bottom level of the dirt cup, simply "unscrew" it from the large dirt cup. 2nd filter is in the unit directly above the top of the dirt cup when u remove it. 3rd is under the dirt cup unit inside the base where cup sits. 4th is on front of vac by light, behind a red removable "grill".
