No, its a two way citizen band (CB) radio. With scanners you can only listen in and can not talk. The FCC set aside these channels for us to use and will not let you go on any other channels without a license.

You have to buy one but this method of installation is NOT recommended if you want the best performance this radio has to offer. Wire it direct to your battery to cut out alternator wine and mount your antenna as high as possible on your vehicle and have it matched. Do not loop extra antenna coax in loops less than 12" in diameter as this can create and RF choke and limit Tx performance. Best bet would be to take this to a professional installer or ask a Ham to install it for you.

yes ya can, i have a tape playing radio in my truck and i have an accessory where i can put a tape in with an auido jack hooked to it, i plugged it into the back of this Cb radio and i was able to hear w/e was b'n recieved but also myself when i plugged it into the PA jack in the back and i talked into the mic.

If you have experienced 20-30 miles with this antenna, then, yes, it is obviously good.

I base this on average conditions. At night, when it is quiet, possibly a lot more range.
