No its not, its an all wood train that connect together with plastic if I remember correctly. But Thomas the train, matchbox cars and Cars the movie cars fit on it. Wonderful deal for the awesome vairability it has!!

WELL MY SON IS NOT A HUGE FAN OF THOMAS THE TRAIN. HE HAS ONE-PERCY AND IT ROLLS ON THERE FINE. BEST USED WITH MATCHBOX CARS AND CARS THE MOVIE-MINIs.

IT IS VERY LIGHT SO YOU CAN TAKE IT ANYWHERE. WE HAVE IT UPSTAIRS BUT MY SON HAS PLAYED WITH IT OUTSIDE IN THE EVENINGS WHEN IT'S NOT SO HOT AND HAS USED IT TO EAT ON. JUST DONT LEAVE IT OUT IN THE RAIN. THERE IS A FINGER SIZED HOLE ON THE LID TO ALLOW YOU TO TAKE IT OFF SO RAIN MIGHT GET IN THROUGH THERE. ENJOY IT ANYWHERE!!

Probably not because there are no tracks, so battery powered vehicles would have no traction. Hope this helps.

If they are the same size as the Thomas trains that connect magnetically, then yes. My grandson has several of those. Also the smaller "Cars" vehicles work. There are separate tracks for trains.
