Yes, we have a Samsung hd tv and it brings in good reception, just set your tv to air and auto program it so it reads all Air HDTV channels. Then it should work for you.

If you live close enough to the transmitter to receive the over-the-air signal you will pick it up. If you are under 15 miles it should come in clear, 15-30 miles it will come in intermittently, over 30 miles away it probably won't come in.

Hi-Band VHF might work reasonably well. I just tested it indoors, horizontally oriented, 2nd floor bedroom on RF Channel 13. We are 27 miles from the transmitter site. Signal quality: 80%

So, it is possible that the upper end of Hi-Band VHF will work well with the MANT940. I don't hold out much hope for Lo-Band VHF (Channel 6 and below)

Caveat: do not use the included 20' of RG59 coax. For indoor use, replace it with 6' of RG6...this will reduce losses significantly. (or use as much RG6 as needed)

Yes you can. In fact I have Dish and they installed a TV antenna as they did not offer local channels over dish when we got ours. If the cable is ran near a tree, I would run the cable up the tree about 15 feet or so to allow for better recption. I believe the antenna comes with a 20 foot cable, so run that up the tree and screw it to the dish cable.

Yes, an HD converter box still needs an antenna and this antenna works great. Keep in mind though that this unit works best if installed outside so take that into consideration before buying one.

Can't be positive without trying myself but... this antenna does have an inline signal booster which does increase signal strength. I get 22 digital channels with it just laying on top of a bookshelf horizontally.

Question
AC Adapter ??
Am I missing something here? I am looking to buy an antenna to pick up local channels. What is with the AC adapter? Does this have to be plugged in? This is an antenna, why do you have to plug this in? What does this AC adapter have to do with anything?

The unit may work without the AC adapter but it, or any other product for that matter, can amplify the signal without the AC adapter or some other power source.

answer 2
It it has an AC adapter to power internal signal booster -- and it need power to run. Thats all. So you',ll just plug it in and then run the antenna wire to your TV. Based on the reviews seems like a decent unit.

answer 3
It's for the antenna amplification which should help reception, but I believe I read it would work without the power. If that's a concern to you, probably ought to pick a non-powered antenna.

Question
What about VHF?
I notice that this attenna is a VHF attenna. Wouldn't I need VHF as well? I just bought an LG LCD TV and I don't have cable. I do have rabbit ears but I bought those about 10 years ago and when everything goes all digital, I want to make sure I get the most of my new TV. Do you sell UHF/VHF attennas as well?

VHF will not be used for TV broadcast after June 12, 2009. Digital broadcast frequencies will be in the UHF range. That is one reason we are being told to "re-scan" for channels after the 6/12/09 transition to digital deadline; those previously found VHS channels won't be there any more. (However, if you live in an outlying area using analog translator stations to receive broadcast TV stations, then you'd still need an analog VHF antenna.)

Yes you will most likely need UHF and VHF, this works for both. Make sure to mount it as high as possible outside, standing up aimed towards the DTV towers desired for best results.

Question
Can I hook this up to DishNetwork?
I have a Vip720 HDTV HDDVR receiver and it has a place for an external antenna. I was wondering if you could hook this antenna up to the dish itself for the external antenna or would I have to run it through the wall from the outside of my house directly to the receiver? Thanks for any help.

I think you will need to hook the Philips antenna directly to your receiver. I am not certain where the actual amplifier on the Philips HDTV antenna is located, but I suspect it is on the antenna so there is DC power being injected into the cable to the antenna to power it. I believe the same is true for the DishNetwork antenna. This prevents the use of some sort of signal combiner. Cross connecting these two different antennas would at minimum not work or possibly even damage one or both systems. In addition the over-the-air and satellite signals could possible interfere with each other.

Question
HDMI input vs Coax cable input connection ?
I have a High Def LCD TV and it has many inputs in the back. It seems to indicate that to get the full HD resolution (1080?) I need to use the HDMI input but they are strange looking sockets (look like a PC connector almost) - So do I run this digital antenna input line directly into the coaxial cable input on back of TV, or do I need some time of connector to change the coax cable over to this HDMI plug ? I guess I am also asking, does the "Antenna/Cable In" coaxial connection on back of TV automatically handle high-def channel resolution, or will it only process the signal as 480i (non HD) resolution?
I am a bit new to this HD / non-HD thing, resolution, and getting the right signal hooked up to the right place. Thanks for any help you can provide.

First thing is first. Does your TV have a built-in HD tuner? If so, then the coax straight to the tv should be able to get you most local programming (when broadcasted) in HD, no extra equipment needed. Most stations broadcast in 1080i and some, like FOX in my area, broadcast in 720p.

friend i had the same problem.the anwser to your question is this.in order to get full hd resution you have to use a hdmi cable like the one you see that looks like a computer port.first get a hdmi cable plug it into that port.then you must plug in the other end of the hdmi cable into a dvd or vcr that has the same port on the dvd or vcr.so the coax cable will go in the tv in of dvd or vcr.what will happen is the hdmi port will take over the coax output on the back of the dvd or vcr so you will not need the coax going out back to the tv.the hdmi cable replaces that.just make sure that your dvd or vcr has a built in digital tuner if not the only place that carries the dvd or vcr built in tuner is best buy they run about $250 but you will elimate the new digital converter box.in the long run you will save.if you have verizon, direct tv or comcast you have to get a hi-def box in place of the current one.make sure to make the necessary changes in the tv menu options.

Question
Is this a directional or multi-directional antenna?

answer 1
At a distance of 27 miles, I find the antenna quite directional. The best performance is with the antenna oriented horizontally, with the front of the wedge pointed toward the transmitters. (The rear is about 1" thick, the front comes down to a v.

> if viewed as an arrow, the pointed end is the front. In other words for the example shown, the antenna is pointed to the "right".

When I changed the orientation to vertical, signals dropped dramatically on all channels. Reversing the direction the wedge points resulted in a loss of signal.

Close in one might not notice the directional characteristics of the antenna, but at the outer extent of its range, it is obviously directional.
