Has to stay plugged in. It does not recharge the batteries. Just allows you to run the LeapPad from outlet power instead of battery power.

The system uses batteries and all this product does it helps reserve the battery life. You have to use this while plugged into the wall. The product does not charge up. I like it and think that it is worth it.

There is no internal battery for the leappad, you need batteries or the a/c adapter...and most kids don't sit in one spot long enough to be worth the a/c adapter in my opinon. I highly suggest investing in rechargeable batteries, any name brand, stay away from generics. Get 2 sets per the number of leappads you own and a charger for the batteries and you will be set! You will always have a set in the system and one ready to go, b/c let me tell you, this weekend my girls played on theirs and I"m so happy I have 4 sets of AAs, that is all I did this weekend, take 1 set out and put another set in. They played constantly. ;)

Question

Will this adapter charge the rechargeable battery pack in our Leapster 2?

Will this adapter charge the rechargeable battery pack in our Leapster 2? Our charging station no longer works, and we've lost the orginal battery cover for my daugther's leapster. Unfortunately, this means she can no longer use the Leapster. :-(

Shoot, i just wrapped mine up in the box along w/the Leappad, but we DO also own the Leapster 2. I would assume it works on all leapfrog products. I asked the company on facebook a month ago before I purchased one if there is a sep. one for each of their devices and they assured me that this ac adaptor would work for ALL of their leapfrog gaming systems. Our charging station is about dead as well and I also have no idea where the battery cover is since we never used real batteries. Best of luck!

The leapster does not require special batteries. I recommend getting the adapter, they eat batteries! Especially if your child loves it as much as mine do. I have two children that have had the leapster for about 2 yrs and still play with it a great deal. Get the adapter!

The AC adapter is just that - connects to your outlet. No need for special batteries.
To save batteries, it's best to buy the AC adapter if your child will be using it a lot indoors. But for car rides, you'll need batteries.

Yes, it does work with all Leapster systems. I checked, because we had purchased the Leapster L-Max, and I wanted to make sure that I was buying an adapter that would work with that system. As long as games, adapters, etc. say that they work with all Leapsters, then you will be able to use them with your Leapster 2.

Question

Does the A/C adapter also work as a charger?

I understand that the leapster2 "eats" batteries, so I would like to recharge batteries; but the WalMart & Leapfrog sites do not indicate if the adapter also acts as a charger. Please help.

No, I do not think this works as a recharger. Leap Frog sells a separate recharging system for about $35, if that is what you are looking for. (I even see that it is listed on this Walmart site.)

I think the adapter simply overrides the battery power when it is plugged in during play.
