Use only salt that is made for pools. My local Wal-Mart carries it but is often out of stock. Your local pool supply store probably has it or can get it for you. I only use salt made for pools.

The directions say to get the purest salt you can get. The product video displays a large bag of table salt. The directions say that softener salt will work but it takes longer to dissolve. Just make sure that you get pure salt. NO iron removers and stuff like that.

It does not use table salt but uses pool salt that can be obtained from any pool supply store. Our local Walmart doesn't carry this salt but all the local pool stores do. It definitely pays to check prices because they vary greatly. I found prices from $7 - $15 for 40 #.

We purchased Morton Pool Salt 40 lb bags (4) at a Walmart Superstore and the cost was close to $20.00.
Our pool is a 4x18 intex above ground inflatable and the initial amount we used was 120 lbs.
We have not had to add anymore at this time.

You use only white 99.5%+ Sodium Chloride Rock salt not the pelletized salt. I purchased it at Home Depot in 40 lb. bags. There is a chart in the directions on how much you need to use. In my case for a 13,000 gal pool I needed 320 lbs of salt. You just pour it in wait until disolved ( about 24hrs ) and turn it on.

Intex does a saltwater system with the filter pump with it. The saltwater system without the pump as long as the pump pumps 1000GPH it will work.

Question

Why did my 8110 saltwater system stop working after about 2 weeks of working great?

We purchased our saltwater system 7/08, but did not install it until this summer 2009. It worked well for about 2 weeks and then just stopped producing chlorine. I've tried everything in the manual twice now, including draining the pool down 1/2 way and still am not able to get a reading on my test strips (the ones included with the system and new ones I purchased). I also purchased salt test strips to make sure that the salt level was correct. What can I do?

We had the same problem. After weeks of trying to figure it out, we finally bought a deluxe test kit that tests for salt, alkalinity, acid, etc. That was when we found that the pool water was not completely in balance. Once we added the proper stuff to balance it, the generator once again started working properly! (We were not getting any codes on the unit, but we had no chlorine in the water at all. Intex didn't even know what to tell us to do.) Get your water at the proper balance and the thing works great!

Do you have really hard water? have you taken the electrode plate out of the system to see if they are coated with calcium. If they are you can soak it in vinegar to remove the calcium.

I don't know why anyone would say it doesn't filter when it does!!!! It takes B size filters!! You clean them until they won't clean anymore, then replace em. My only complaint is after the clorinator runs it's cycle it go into sleep mode (OFF!!) until next cycle. What I do and Yes I know it's a pain but I reset the power button every once and a while to allow the pump/filter to kick on, then reprogram it later that evening.

No, it does not filter. It uses your existing pump to move water through it. All this unit does is free the chlorine in the salt you add to your pool thus eliminating the need to add chlorine to your pool.

The salt system will take care of the chlorine only. It is helpful to have your water tested to find out if you need any other chemicals or not. My chlorine level has always been very good but I still need to adjust the PH & Alk levels at times.

I have had this pump on my pool all summer. So far, I have had to add calcium hardener twice, shock twice, salt once, and another chemical-- just cant remember the name--
However, I must say, this year my pool has been a dream to keep up. Even though we have had to add chemicals, the pool has been clear blue-- except for ONE day-- (it was green that day!)-- we immediately had the pool store test the water and solved the problem-- but I have had to add chemicals-- I really thought that wouldn't be necessary.......

Absolutly no other chemicals. Just the salt. We have this product and I stand by it. Our pool is crystal clear, has been for 2 months which is the time we have owned it. You will not regret buying this. Salt is the only thing you add when hook it up. Good Luck!

Question

Algae everwhere?

We purchased this unit with a 12x24' pool. Water was crystal clear for about 6 weeks and then one day we took the cover off and it looked like river water. Floor and walls were completely covered with algae. We have cleaned it and pool is still extremely cloudy. The low salt indicator goes off every day or two. Any suggestions?

I do suggest you see the pool store for a free water testing....my pool looked like a river and it ended up being metal in the water and everytime the saltwater system ran it would react with the chlorine and make it greener...no one can tell you exactly what is wrong except the pool store...

I have put over 400 lbs. total salt in the last 10 days cause it keeps saying low salt.

I would think this is way to much salt but it keeps saying low salt. My pool is 20'x48". Could the system be broken?

You need to take off the electrolytic cell and clean fill it with Vinegar. This needs to be done weekly. The saltwater system came with an end cap to attach to the end of the cell for this. Hope this helps.

Yes, this is way tooooo much salt for this size pool. The unit must not be working properly, exspecially if it is new. I just put in a 12x24x52" oval & it only needed 150 lbs. of salt for start up & it is working just fine. Good luck!!

Take the reaction chamber off and clean the titanium plates off with a high pressure water spray and a soft tooth brush...they will probably be caked with calcium. Then you will have to drain about 1/2 of your water out and replace with fresh water because if you can taste the water and it's salty, the salt is too high...Also make sure to buy plenty of filter elements...about one a week / week and a half.

The answer would depend upon your water test.

I have to adjust the PH and Alk levels in my pool. When needed I add Dry Acid to bring the down the levels to within range.

Some people need not add anything else other than salt at start-up.

The saltwater system pretty much tells you if you put too much salt, to empty some water and put more fresh water. If it's less salt, just add salt.
