Questions & Answers for Hoover Hoover Steamvac Silver Carpet Cleaner, F5915900

Question

How well are dried pet stains removed with the Hoover Steamvac Silver Model #F5915-900?

I have a 16 yr. old dog who has within the last 6 months started to have accidents during the night that unfortunately remain "hidden" until almost dry. I am afraid that because of this fact her urine has soaked into the padding under the carpet. Does anyone know if this cleaner will extract such deep stains and or dirt? It sounds like the cleaner for me otherwise!!

I had a 16 year old that passed away about 3 years ago. She had accidents and was on a medication that made her urine super smelly and sticky which caused awful staining. I had the carpet professionally cleaned 3 times and they were unable to get the stains out. I decided to try this machine before replacing the carpet and this machine removed every stain and the carpet looks great again. The machine paid for itself with that one cleaning.

I have an older cat who has decided to claim the carpet in the storage room as her litterbox, and this worked wonders on the stains. I had an old Oreck steamer that didn't clean the stains, nor did it have the suction to remove what it put in the carpet. This Hoover got everything out -- cat stains, cat smell and the stuff the Oreck left in. I bought the Woolite Pet cleaner to use with it, and it's been a wonder. I wouldn't put bleach in, as that could discolor your carpet, but you could try some vinegar or Odo-Ban in the steam cleaner if you want a cheaper alternative to get the smell out. Good luck (and hope your dog is doing well!).

Yes. You can go over a spot using a side to side motion while injecting the cleaner so the brushes scrub that area well. Go back over it in the normal forward backward style and it will pull it up. May take a few passes but it will work. I also use a small amount of Bleach for those types of stains to eliminate odor however I am sure the manufacture would not condone that seeing that it is hard on the seals. I also won't tell you that I use a mixture of hot water and laundry detergent rather than the cleaners to save $$. Works as well if not better and I am only now retiring this model after 5 years of hard use so doesn't seem to hurt anything.

I bought it a month ago and I have ben succsessful! with my old dog pet stains a week or more old (waiting for the cleaner to arrive and finding others) . It also depends on your carpet staine resistance. I am about to tackle some older cat stains underneather chairs that I just found. So far I am pleased of how deep it has gone.

I have only owned this steamer for a day, but I can tell you I own two large dogs who have been tracking in a lot of dirt. The last few weeks we've had a lot of rain and I'v found myself renting a rug doctor each weekend. I decided to invest in a carpet cleaner and gave it a shot last night and was amazed at how dirty the water was after using a Rug Doctor the past 3 weekends. I have brand new carpet and can't believe how much hidden dirt the Steam Vac Silver picked up!

Hope this helps!

I don't think it will remove old pet stains especially if the urine has soaked into the padding. The cleaner does a good job at sucking up the water it sprays but I don't think it can reach the padding.

I have a small older female dog that goes in the night too, this cleaner took it out and there is no after smell. I went over the carpet a few times to make sure. There is a surge trigger that puts extra down in a certain spot. I would recommend.

Our old steamer went ka-put on us a few months ago so we have similar issues. Our larger dog sometimes goes in odd places so she doesn't get in trouble. We bought the PowerSteamer and after one use, I noticed the stains and smell were gone. I was very impressed. I also used the Bissell Advanced Formula Plus for Pet Stain and Odor. We also have kids who leave "mystery" stains all over the house and it cleans them up as well.

How hot can the water be that you use?

Just wondering if you can heat water in a large pot to get more heat than what your water heater can do. Hotter the water the better the cleaning job. want to know what the temp. limits might be. Plastic parts can get soft when really hot.

I find that the hot water from the tap does a good job. Heating water on the stove may damage your machine as plastic does have limits in what amount of heat it can tolerate. Not to mention you run the risk of burning yourslf.

After about a year or so of owning this cleaner I had the same problem with it not sucking up the water. For me it turned out that where the dirty return water tank sits on in the machine has a circular rubber gasket. I put some "Silicone Grease", found in home depot in plumbing) on the gasket. Do not use Vaseline. I also press down on the dirty water tank when putting it back and then closing the two lever clamps. Now it's good as new. Also put the grease on any other part that has a rubber seal on it. Things dry out here in the Desert very easily.

You have to make sure the lid to the holding box (dirty water) is Air Tight! It is sucking in room air & losing suction to pull up the water.

try pushing down on the dirty water resevoir before locking the clamps. The carpets will still feel damp but should dry within an hour. Make sure to pull back very slowly when cleaning to get best results (don't operate quickly like a vacuum).

Hi, Not sure if you resolved this. But it happened to me a couple days ago. Looked at the tank that holds the water picked up and realized there is a square piece on the outside of it that slides up and down, think it is used with the attachments. Anyway, it wasnt slid down and upright completely. After I jingled it back into that position and put the tank on, the water started sucking up again. Hope this helps!

There are five brushes attached to each other with a plastic square peg sticking out of the housing in the middle. The peg fits into the inner contents of the machine. The machine rotates the peg and the peg rotates the brushes. I attached a picture.

I've tired differnet brands but have found that the Hoover brand does the best job in this machine. Some brands produce more suds than is needed and this causes the machine to quit sucking up the water. You end up having to dump the diry water and clean the filter more often.

Question

Fill tank

Hi. I'm pretty sure that I've must have made a mistake somewhere, but when I run the cleaner the water from the fill tank does not ultimately end up in the bottom tank. Don't know where it goes, but there's been only one time that I've used the cleaner that the dirty water ends up in the bottom tank. Is there a way to make sure that I'm positioning everything correctly? I guess that the top fill tank isn't in the correct position.
Thanks very much.

It is probably the bottom dirty water tank that is not connected right. Be sure the bottom clamps are clamped securely. If the tank is not on exactly right it will appear to clamp, but is not actually clamped tight. Put the back of the lid in place clamped over the little bump before you close it in front. Be sure the rectangular part that slides up and down is all the way down in the compartment. Then be sure the lid is clamped down well. If you miss any of these steps it will appear that the tank is on but the machine will not suction.

There is a moving plastic part on the back of the dirty tank. it moves up and down and can come out. If it is not all the way inside and is hanging out, that breaks the suction so it is not picking up the water off of the floor. Just make sure it is in all the way and the dirty tank is sealed right.

I have to get my suction tank "going" by using the upholstery wand for a few minutes before the carpet part works. I'm guessing the seals get dried out.

Tough question, not sure I completely understand. The bottom tank must have it's top securely affixed to the recovery unit. You have to look and insure a good tight seal. It should close from the back to the front with good seal. Then the water in the top should be fed out by pulling the trigger, the unit will suck up the dirt with the recovery water. I suspect you are not getting the top on good enough on the bottom unit.

If the seal is not good on the return tank lid suction is lost and the water will not get sucked back in. This happened to me a few times . Make sure the lid on the return tank clicks into place before trying to suck up the water. Once it was on properly I found it sucked up the water very well.

You can use any carpet cleaner. But I have found that "Purple Power" or "Simple Green" or any other brand of similar degreaser & multipurpose cleaner works just as well and is MUCH less expensive (1 gallon Purple Power = $5.99 or 1 gallong "Simple Green" = $9.99). My favorite was "Simple Green" because it smells good. I found it at ACE Hardware as well as "Purple Power". These cleaners are multi-purpose, so you can use it for stuff like laundry, cleaning, dishes, cars, etc.
