Question

Can the removable Velour Cover be kept off of the mattress?

I know that the Velour Cover is removable for washing & drying purposes, but can the mattress be used without the Cover? Will it affect the quality/overall life of the mattress?

Yes. The cover is mostly a cosmetic cover up!

I do believe it would be better with it on but it may take years to find out if that is true or not.

Hi KNewell. I can't be certain of that as the issue was not addressed in the brochure included - however, I wouldn't use the mattress without placing the cover back on after you have washed it.

A close friend of mine had given me a TempurPedic pillow several years back. When needed, I'd soak the cover in OxyClean for 24 hours and go without the cover. When I did this, the pillow would flatten out and become misshapen. Even so, when I put the cover back on - the pillow always returns to its original shape and firmness. Of course, that is just a pillow. A mattress on the other hand, I would not recommend using it without the cover. However, I do recommend rotating it perhaps once a month (not flipping it!).

Hope this helps!

Yes, but stains and such will penetrate the mattress. It is very similar to a sponge-like material. So if there are pets, little kids in the house may want just use a simple pull over protector. Its really up to you, it will not effect sleep quality.

Question

If you needed to get the King size, would it be bendable to take up a smaller space?

We just bought a house and our queen pillow-top mattress won't fit up our stairs because of the height of the ceiling. We need to be able to manipulate the mattress to fit up the staircase (also king's box springs are 2 twin sizes.. much easier to transport up the stairs). Anything would be helpful. Thanks

The king size comes packaged in a box that is about 2.5' x 2.5' x 4'. It weighs about 120 pounds. I rolled it up my stairs end over end on my own. It isn't vacuum packed. It is compressed, wrapped in plastic, and then put in a bag to hold its shape. Mine split the bag during shipping, so it started to expand as soon as I took it out of the cardboard box. Unfortunately, I had the bright idea of unpacking it the night before I planned on setting it up... one less step in the morning because we were setting it up before work to let it air out all day. Within in an hour it was expanded to the point that it was going to unfold itself, so we laid it out flat in our guest bedroom overnight. While moving it to our bedroom, it didn't seem to be any more flexible than my old spring mattress. So, make sure you have it where you want it before even taking it out of the box. Though, I doubt folding it in half would damage it like it would a spring mattress... learned that lesson the hard way as well.

This mattress is shipped vacuum packed. It will fill with air and become the finished size when you open the packaging. It will be heavy but should fit up any stairway.

I weigh 170 and the mattress is very firm for me, I think 240 would be no problem. Hot is a matter of each person to some degree but I bought the plushest pillow-top mattress cover I could find (Kohl's) and do not get hot.

Probably, but you might have to take it out of the box...here is a picture of my daughter (5 yrs old - and average sized for her age) on the mattress as it was rolled up for shipping before we opened it.
We chose a memory foam mattress partly because we knew it would fit up our very narrow and low-clearance staircase!

Question

hi.. i have 2 questions?

1. can this 12" Spa Sensations Theratouch Memory foam mattress, queen size, that i plan to purchase from Walmart, get bed bugs?
2. i have a smart base frame that i purchased for a 7" foam mattress, with about 4" between steel slats, and it seems to work fine for the 7" memory foam mattress that i currently have, except i am a side sleeper, and have tried to move to middle, and seemed to feel some type of lump, but would like the 12" one, and want to know if this base can be used without any plywood between? and if a plywood board is necessary, what size do i need for this 12" mattress?
thanking you and waiting for a response before purchasing.

all types of matresses, clothes, carpet, cutains etc can get bedbugs.

i have the 12 king with a steel slumber 1 frame from walmart but i bought thin either 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch wood paneling (like the walls in a mobile home)not plywood to lay on top of frame and it was cheaper and works great

Hi, I think any bed can get bedbugs, but there are no "seams" for them to live in they need darkness and they say to look in seams, so maybe this helps you.

About the plywood, the 12 inch is what I have and it is substantial in size so I would recommend a solid platform base for your mattress, I think that may be your problem with the 7 in. I would buy plywood to fit the whole mattress size which is stated in the details of the mattress description. Hope this helps
