No, but you most likely will need to buy a new bed within the year. It is of incredibly cheap quality.

No mattress or box spring are included. The twin bed includes a headboard, footboard, rails, slats, and pieces to make a sort of platform over the slats. All particle board or something. Don't know about the trundle. I returned it because we didn't open it after seeing the bed.
