4D Batteries but I suggest purchasing at Radio Shack (2010 catalog #'s):

Enercell AC-to-DC Power Adapter (6v, 800mA) - 273-354

Enercell 2.1mm I.D. M Adapter - 273-0344

These two will save you money in the long run.

There's an actual cord which retails for $90+. Some people recommend a universal adapter but I wouldn't risk it. However, that said I wouldn't pay $90+ for a cord either! Check out tiny.cc/ggpower or eBay and you can get it for half that!

You will see in the manual that they recommend you calling them to get the correct part/adapter, otherwise you might ruin your monitor! You don't have to buy an adapter if you don't want to, because monitor is battery operated.

Use of step stool to hop up on this bike is not the solution. Your foot should comfortably reach up to paddle.

Minimum height should be 5'2" to reach the paddle from lowest level of seat. My Wife is 5'4' and she needs lowest adjustment of the seat.

I called Walmart and they exchanged the bike for the last one they had in stock, but I had to drive 30 miles to do the exchange and 30 miles back. This new one clunks now and again, so I hope it doesn't get any worse.

my bike just started doing that, i called walmart, they said they will take it back or i can exchange it, i think it's the bearings that went out in it. let me know if you were able to fix your problem, or did you get it replaced.

I definately think that this bike can help with weight loss and maintenence. I've been using a 290U for afew months after it got too cold for me outside and it helped me to keep losing weight. -- 178lbs down so far in about 14 months! (not all because of the bike obviously) -- dietfreeme.com

My weight is similar but I'm a lot shorter. The seat and frame hold my weight easily. For the price, this bike is a good value, and the programs are challenging for my fitness level. How well it will work for losing weight depends entirely on how much I use it!

You could stand up, but you better be in a tall room. My 9 year old niece stood up on it and rode it for 20 minutes.

The biggest pro about this bike is just that! To stand while pedaling. The recumbent bikes are solely for sitting, but with the upright bikes, you can sit or stand!

I'm 180lbs, it holds me when I stand, but standing and riding feels akward on this bike,so I've never really gone all out trying to.
And yes, it will work the abs. Especially if you keep your stomach tight through the workout(like pilates).

Looking through the QA's here on Walmart different people are saying to use 500ma, 800ma and 1300ma and some are saying less than 1300ma will damage the bike. Other people have indicated that they are risking it and just randomly tried 6V adapters they had laying around. A few have mentioned that a universal adapter fried the bike and according to the mfg - "use of a universal power cord voids your warranty". Obviously they want the $90 for the cord. My recommendation is to stay away from universals with this bike and don't risk it "trying" various cords -- just buy one that's listed to actually work for the bike somewhere like homegympower.biz. They're only $39 and there's no concerns about is it set right. I bought one, plugged it in and haven't had one issue. Goodbye batteries! Hope this is a helpful to someone!

not sure about the fan/display...sounds faulty. The adapter should be set to 6v and + polarity...maybe the screen unit wasn't getting enough volts. Good luck.
