MiniDV is a small tape cassette. Used on many professional level cameras. With an inexpensive fire wire card, for your computer, you can transfer the videos to your computer and burn it onto a DVD. Many computer retailers carry the cards and cords. The typical size for a cassette is 60 min.

Help chosing cameras

ok so i'm not very experienced buying cameras. my mother bought me a camera but it didn't come with a cord to connect to my computer. I need the videos to upload to the computer for editing. Later on we figured out that the camcorder i have isnt used for those purposes. I need to find a camera that: connects to my laptop (USB), able to record in decent quality, and can connect to a tripod. thank you

I looked online, as I had the same question- honestly- bring the camcorder to radio shak, or somewhere like that and they should be able to help fit you with some sort of cable that can connect the recorder to your laptop.

Even though this camcorder uses a small tape for recording, you can transfer video + audio either by analog (included RCA cable) or digital (optional firewire cable) method. Digital is the preferred means. Your computer/DVD recorder and software may determine the method you use.

You have to buy a specific DV cable, but then yeah. Anything on the camcorder tape you can put on your computer. Its really easy.

I have not found anywhere that allows you to take a still photo. However, if you just record something and then transfer it to a computer, you can capture a still image from the video file.

I got my DV cable from Best Buy. I think it was like $15 or $20. Just ask and they'll point you right to it.

Can you play back video on the tv?

no where can I find it stating in the description that it hooks to the tv. Also are there tapes involved or do I keep recording over my old videos? I want to play back tapes in the future on the tv for the kids to see.

It comes with the hook up you need to plug directly into the tv. Also, the tapes are MiniDV tapes and you can record over them or keep them and buy new ones. I live in a small town area and the tapes are not hard to find at all.

It does not have a view finder and it is not capable of taking still shots that I am aware of.
