NO. A newborn needs an infant carseat or a convertible seat that can rearface and forward face. This seat can only forward face. You want to keep your child in a rearfacing carseat as long as possible as it is the safest. Some convertible carseats have rearfacing limits of up to 40 lbs. You should keep the child rearfacing up to the limit of the carseat (also check to make sure it is not outgrown by height...tops of ears should be below the shell of the carseat. This seat is for a child who is AT ABSOLUTE MINIMUM 20 lbs and 1 year, but much better suited for kids over 2 or over 40 lbs since it is best to keep them rearfacing during that time period.

No, this is a forward facing ONLY car seat. It is for convertible 5 point harness, high back belt positioning booster, and backless booster only. Up to 100 pounds. I would not recommend this for a child under 3 years old.

No, it is a front facing seat only. In the description, it says age 1-10. It doesn't recline enough to keep baby's head back. This is a toddler and booster seat in one.

No, this carseat is not front facing. It's a 3-in-1 for the 5 point harness, seat without the harness (but with a seat belt), and a backless booster seat. The seat with the harness goes up to 40 lbs., the seat without the harness goes up to 60 lbs., and the booster seat goes up to 100 lbs.

I love this car seat. We bought one for our daughter. It's very comfortable for her to sit in, even on long trips. The covers come off easily and are machine washable (on the delicate cycle). The straps come on and off very easily. In fact, I just washed them today, and sprayed Clorox bleach on it and power washed them while the covers were being washed. It's not too heavy, but is very safe. We loved this car seat so much that we bought one for our second daughter. It also reclines slightly, making it even more comfortable.

I highly recommend this car seat. You won't have to buy another car seat (once you get past the front facing stage), of course.

Question

Is the seat brown or gray?

I was looking at buying the set of 2 of these seats that is also listed on walmart.com. I noticed that the color of those looks brown (and also in some of the secondary pictures for the single seat purchase). The color on the single seat primary photo above looks gray. Can you clarify the color? The color for the single seat or double purchase is both listed as bravo, but I am wondering if they are different.

No, it's a forward facing only car seat. If you are looking for a comparable car seat that faces rear too I would suggest the Graco MyRide 65. This goes rear facing to 40 pounds and forward to 65. Although that isn't as high as the Nautalis goes I can assure you that it will last until your child is at least 6 if your child is not way above average. I am currently using it for a 7 year old who is 55pounds and like it better than my Britax.
If you are set on getting a seat that rear faces and is a booster in this price range I would suggest the Evenflo Symphony or The First Years True Fit. One to steer clear of is the line from Dorel/Cosco/Eddie Bauer /Safety First(All the same company). They have a seat they refer as a 3 in 1 or Alpha Omega which says it goes to 100 pounds, it does't even come close! I stopped using it when my child was 4 b/c it wouldn't fit with the straps and the adjustable head rest was at the position where there would be minimal side impact protection b/c it went above the shell. Then even at 2 with a winter jacket it seemed like I was stuffing him in the seat. Sorry for the long post but I hopefully saved you some time and energy on car seat shopping. I wish someone had told me before I bought seats I ended up giving away long before my children outgrew them.

No this car seat is not approved for rear facing. There are car seats similar to this one that are approved for rear facing so that you won't have to buy another one. There are studies to show that an infant should remain rear faced until at least 2 yrs of age and in some countries that's the law. One product is the Graco My ride 65. Hope this helps.

This is only a forward facing seat. Your 9 month old should still rear face.(most states they must rear face till 1 AND 20lbs) You should look at a convertible car seat this way you can keep him rear facing till 2 or 40lbs(I say 40 cause allot of the convertible seats go to that weight. If he reaches 2 before 40 then if you want you can turn him forward(it is safest rear facing) and keep him in that seat till he reaches the weight limit. I had something like this one just different print. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-Convertible-Car-Seat-Marianne/20753140

This is not a rear facing carseat. Usually states have a weight/height requirement in addition to age. Your son might meet the size requirement to use a forward facing seat. My state is the same way, but it is one year old and/or 21 lbs. My children meet the weight, but not the age. Both of them were in forward facing seats before one year old. However, this is a wonderful seat to buy when you do get a forward facing seat.

Originally everybody sold both seats were $180 in the store and online. Then for some reason Walmart started selling the gray seat for $138 and kept the other at $180. Maybe Walmart.com bought too many of the gray seats and they are trying to cut down on inventory. However, no matter what color car you have the gray one will match up. This can't be said for the Pink-orange one. Buy the gray one. You won't be disappointed and you'll save some cash.

Sometimes its the difference in fabric. The one I purchased for almost 180 from babies r us has sofet fabric that is exclusive to babies r us. The one I purchased from Walmart for 129, has different, less plush fabric, but just as great of a seat. Wal- Mart sells the exact same seat in the store as it does online, but in the store it is much more expensive.

I bought my Nautilus the week they hit the shelves for my then 4 year old daughter. At the time, it was the only carseat, aside from the large and expensive Britax Regent, tall enough for my daughter to use. She is off the charts heavy and tall and hit the harness weight limit and the height limit right at her 5th birthday.

My middle daughter who is now 4 uses the seat with lots and lots of room to grow. She is 40" tall and weighs 35lbs. I estimate that she has at least 2, maybe even 3 or 4 years before she outgrows the harness.

I know the seat has an adjustable headrest. To go into a high back booster a child is supposed to be 38', and the height adjusts taller from there, so I would say this would be a good option for you. The adjuster is easy to use and adjusts with one hand!
