answer 1
Yes. This carseat can be installed with the lapbelt only
IF the child is at least 1yr old, between 20-65lbs and between 27"-52".
If the child is smaller, you need a rear-facing seat.
If the child is larger, you need a booster, and a booster requires the shoulder belt.

answer 2
YES and NO
YES -- you MAY use a lap-only belt if the you are using the seat in HARNESSED MODE
NO -- you may NOT use a lap-only belt for either booster mode (high-back or backless), you must have a lap-shoulder combo to use a non-harnessing booster seat

answer 1
NO. A newborn needs an infant carseat or a convertible seat that can rearface and forward face. This seat can only forward face. You want to keep your child in a rearfacing carseat as long as possible as it is the safest. Some convertible carseats have rearfacing limits of up to 40 lbs. You should keep the child rearfacing up to the limit of the carseat (also check to make sure it is not outgrown by height...tops of ears should be below the shell of the carseat. This seat is for a child who is AT ABSOLUTE MINIMUM 20 lbs and 1 year, but much better suited for kids over 2 or over 40 lbs since it is best to keep them rearfacing during that time period.

No, this is a forward facing ONLY car seat. It is for convertible 5 point harness, high back belt positioning booster, and backless booster only. Up to 100 pounds. I would not recommend this for a child under 3 years old.

No, it is a front facing seat only. In the description, it says age 1-10. It doesn't recline enough to keep baby's head back. This is a toddler and booster seat in one.

No, this carseat is not front facing. It's a 3-in-1 for the 5 point harness, seat without the harness (but with a seat belt), and a backless booster seat. The seat with the harness goes up to 40 lbs., the seat without the harness goes up to 60 lbs., and the booster seat goes up to 100 lbs.

I love this car seat. We bought one for our daughter. It's very comfortable for her to sit in, even on long trips. The covers come off easily and are machine washable (on the delicate cycle). The straps come on and off very easily. In fact, I just washed them today, and sprayed Clorox bleach on it and power washed them while the covers were being washed. It's not too heavy, but is very safe. We loved this car seat so much that we bought one for our second daughter. It also reclines slightly, making it even more comfortable.

I highly recommend this car seat. You won't have to buy another car seat (once you get past the front facing stage), of course.

No, it is not a rear-facing seat. Children can begin using this seat at age 1 and continue to 100 pounds. (Most likely well past the car seat age)

No. There would be too big of a difference in the strap sizes between those ages. It could be done but would be a hassle to have to redo the positioning of the belts each time. The belts are supposed to be positioned in the slot even with the child's shoulder.

You probably can't, unless the kids are the same size. Need to have the harness in the right position- my kids are three inches different and the shoulder straps are at different heights for them. If the 1 year old is big enough they could probably sit in the harness, but you'd need to have a separate seat for each kid (or adjust the straps all the time).

If your 1 year old is at least 20 pounds, you technically *could*. This carseat is only used forward facing, so if you still want your 1yo rear facing, then you won't want to use this carseat yet. You would also need to take the carseat out each time you want to switch kids as you will need to adjust the straps and headreast to the correct position, so not very convienent to use it for both, but possible.

answer 6
Well, your 1-year old should probably be rear-facing, but I guess legally, if the child is 1 year AND 20lbs you could put him forward facing.
While you could use the seat for a variety of children, you would need to uninstall the seat to adjust the harness height for each child.

No, I loved it but it cannot face rear so I gave it to my 2 yr old grandson. I bought 2 Cosco - Alpha Omega Elite which go from birth to 35 lbs rear facing and up to 100 lbs front facing. There has never been a documented case of child breaking their leg from rear facing and having their feet touch the seat. There are many cases of broken necks from forward facing a child that is too young - under 2 years old and 35 lbs.

I would definitely wait till over age 2. Ideally, your child should remain rear facing as long as possible and this is a forward facing only seat.
For those that said their child's seat touch the back seat, just have them sit "indian style", they would be much more comfortable and still remain safest possible. I know it sounds odd, but there are 3 and 4 yr olds still rear facing by sitting this way.
To the Original poster, just get your son a convertible for now with a high weight limit for rear facing, there are some that go over 30 lbs now. Then when THAT seat is outgrown, you can forward face your son in the Nautilus safely.

That's the same problem I have my son is long and has completely outgrown his seat that was supposed to be good up to 26 lbs. He's 23lbs. and his feet rest on the seat of the car to the point that he has to bend his knees in his seat, I dont feel safe with him sitting like that. But at the same time everyone says to wait, I'm confused.

I would NOT use this seat for any 1 yr old. It is safest to keep your baby rear facing for as long as possible. There are many seats on the market that are a better fit for a small child. RF to 33-35lbs is safest. Look up rear facing viedos on you tube. Fet on the back of the seat are ok. He just needs a convertable. Check out the trufit.

Most vehicles won't allow that. For example, my minivan's owner's manual doesn't allow it...not enough LATCH anchors I suppose...although I never tried using LATCH on one and the lap belt on the other. But I probably won't!!

I just installed my 3rd seat of this kind in our Chevy Silverado truck. There's absolutely no room to spare, but the are installed properly and tight. If you have a Toys R Us or Babies R Us...use their display models to see if they will install. That is what I did before purchasing.

It does take up space. If you are just trying to put 2 in one row of your suv they would certainly fit. With ours I can sit in the back of our Hyundai Santa Fe with the car seat one side of me and my oldest daughter (12 yrs old) on my other side. I hope that helped you! It really is a great car seat...I've been hit by a drunk driver with my daughter in it (now I have new one of exactly the same).

Question

Does this seat have a proper seat belt fit?

i saw in the news that out of 60 seats tested, only 15 pass. it just said that the lap belt should fit flat across a child's upper thighs, not across the soft abdomen and the shoulder belt should cross snugly over the middle of a child's shoulder.

There is a place on the booster seat which makes the seat belt lay flat on the legs of the child instead of across the abs. It also has an adjuster so that it is placed properly on the shoulder area when the back is off

Yes! I have had this inspected at the local police station and the belt does not touch the child's abdomen. As long as you have the head rest placed in the proper position, the chest belt fits snugly as well. (It is fed through the hole on the head piece) There are molded pieces that hold both belts in place.

It depends on your child, really.
I know earlier/smaller boosterers it does not fit well, but does work nicely on older kids using it as a booster.
But MOST children who grow out of this seat by harness height will fit fine using this as a booster.
If not then there is always many other options, The Nautilus is GREAT as a harness seat. Many use the Cheaper Turbo Boosters "from walmart" & have NO qualms with them, so you wont be out to much if the Nautilus doesn't fit well.

Of the multi-use seats, this has a decent fit the majority of the time (the belt guides are built-in to the bottom portion, not the back/abdomen portion like the AlphaOmegas), but a fit is also dependent on how your child is proportioned.
If you are only looking to use it as a booster, you may be better off buying a dedicated booster-only seat (they're also cheaper). However, if you have a few years of harnessing left, this has a great chance of being a good booster when you have outgrown the harness.
