Yes. This carseat can be installed with the lapbelt only
IF the child is at least 1yr old, between 20-65lbs and between 27"-52".
If the child is smaller, you need a rear-facing seat.
If the child is larger, you need a booster, and a booster requires the shoulder belt.

answer 2
YES and NO
YES -- you MAY use a lap-only belt if the you are using the seat in HARNESSED MODE
NO -- you may NOT use a lap-only belt for either booster mode (high-back or backless), you must have a lap-shoulder combo to use a non-harnessing booster seat

answer 1
NO. A newborn needs an infant carseat or a convertible seat that can rearface and forward face. This seat can only forward face. You want to keep your child in a rearfacing carseat as long as possible as it is the safest. Some convertible carseats have rearfacing limits of up to 40 lbs. You should keep the child rearfacing up to the limit of the carseat (also check to make sure it is not outgrown by height...tops of ears should be below the shell of the carseat. This seat is for a child who is AT ABSOLUTE MINIMUM 20 lbs and 1 year, but much better suited for kids over 2 or over 40 lbs since it is best to keep them rearfacing during that time period.

No, this is a forward facing ONLY car seat. It is for convertible 5 point harness, high back belt positioning booster, and backless booster only. Up to 100 pounds. I would not recommend this for a child under 3 years old.

No, it is a front facing seat only. In the description, it says age 1-10. It doesn't recline enough to keep baby's head back. This is a toddler and booster seat in one.

No, this carseat is not front facing. It's a 3-in-1 for the 5 point harness, seat without the harness (but with a seat belt), and a backless booster seat. The seat with the harness goes up to 40 lbs., the seat without the harness goes up to 60 lbs., and the booster seat goes up to 100 lbs.

I love this car seat. We bought one for our daughter. It's very comfortable for her to sit in, even on long trips. The covers come off easily and are machine washable (on the delicate cycle). The straps come on and off very easily. In fact, I just washed them today, and sprayed Clorox bleach on it and power washed them while the covers were being washed. It's not too heavy, but is very safe. We loved this car seat so much that we bought one for our second daughter. It also reclines slightly, making it even more comfortable.

I highly recommend this car seat. You won't have to buy another car seat (once you get past the front facing stage), of course.

This seat is a forward facing seat that can also be used as a booster seat. It is for kids age 2 (min because kids under 2 years old should still be rear facing) through 8 to 12 years (until the child can properly fit a car seat's seat belt).

We own this car seat for our 5 year old and it is a great 5 point harness seat. It also works very well as a booster, but it is really big and heavy to be used as a booster. Just recently, we moved our daughter into the turbobooster just because the Nautilus is so big and heavy.

This carseat has very high top slots (the highest adjustment for the straps) at 18.5 inches. So have your son sit flat on his bottom against a wall and measure from the floor to his shoulder, if it is less than 18.5 inches, then yes, he should fit. Just remember that straps should be at or above the shoulder when forward facing.
answered 4 years, 11 months ago

answer 6
The manual claims 52" for the harness, but the pertinent information is that the top harness slot measures ~18 inches (which is one of the tallest on the market) - the harness must be fed at or above your child's shoulders for proper useage (seat your child against a wall and measure how far above the ground his shoulders are to get a better idea)
After you are done with the harness, the guidelines are about 57" in high-back booster mode; then you can switch to backless booster mode if needed.
The manual is readily available on Graco's site if you need more info.

Most vehicles won't allow that. For example, my minivan's owner's manual doesn't allow it...not enough LATCH anchors I suppose...although I never tried using LATCH on one and the lap belt on the other. But I probably won't!!

It does take up space. If you are just trying to put 2 in one row of your suv they would certainly fit. With ours I can sit in the back of our Hyundai Santa Fe with the car seat one side of me and my oldest daughter (12 yrs old) on my other side. I hope that helped you! It really is a great car seat...I've been hit by a drunk driver with my daughter in it (now I have new one of exactly the same).

Question

What are the heights of all 4 harness guides on the GN?

I believe "harness guides" is what you would call them.

My 3 year old daughters current car seat is a Cosco Scenera. The top guide height on the CS is 15 in. and I recently had to move the harness to the top slot. What guide would that be equal to on the Nautilus?

I'm worried she will grow out of this seat before she turns 5yrs old and I was hoping to keep her harnessed until atleast 5yrs old if not longer.

At the moment she is 36.5 inches, 30 lbs and she just turned 3yrs old a couple weeks ago.

On the nautilus the back of the seat is extendable...like the handle on a carry on piece of luggage. when the child outgrows the slots for the harness he/she should be transitioned over to the regular car seats. the Nautilus has seatbelt guides just for that purpose. I have not had to switch my son over from the built in harness yet but 4 inches from now I will be considering it. At that time the belt guides will come into play. And when he outgrows the belt guides I will be removing the back and just using the booster seat only option and just use the seat belts that came with the car.

THe car isn't home that the seat is in, but I can tell you that my 6 YO is 48.5" tall and that she is in the middle of the 3 guides at the back of the seat, so she likely has at least another year or more, perhaps, in the 5 point. The catch for us is winter coats make it harder to close (in winter), but she'll make it another year w/the coat and probably until 7-8 w/out winter coat.

Just installed and put the shoulder harness in second position for 3 year old son that is 40 inches and weighs 40 pounds. It says he can stay harnassed up to 65 pounds. The back raises up to accommodate the child as they grow taller. Owner's manual says it can be used up to 10 years old, as a booster. Can be a high back booster as well.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I recently purchased this seat for my 3 year old son to replace a scenera. He is 38 lbs and 40 inches tall with a VERY long torso and we are using the top harness slots for him right now. It does look like there is quite a bit of room for him to grow though, I would say his torso should be able to grow another 3 inches or so before we have to move to the shoulder belt.

My son is about 40 inches and he is just about needs me to move it up to the second slot. I think it depends on if your child is long waisted or has long legs though. Here are the measurements from the manual.

WITH the harness it is:
Weight 20-65 lbs
Height 27 to 52 inches

WithOUT the harness(but high back booster)
Weight 30-100 lbs
Height 38-57 inches

WithOut the back support (just booster)

Weight 40-100 lbs
Height 40-57 inches

I hope this helps!
