answer 1
Yes. This carseat can be installed with the lapbelt only
IF the child is at least 1yr old, between 20-65lbs and between 27"-52".
If the child is smaller, you need a rear-facing seat.
If the child is larger, you need a booster, and a booster requires the shoulder belt.

answer 2
YES and NO
YES -- you MAY use a lap-only belt if the you are using the seat in HARNESSED MODE
NO -- you may NOT use a lap-only belt for either booster mode (high-back or backless), you must have a lap-shoulder combo to use a non-harnessing booster seat

this carseat is for 20-100lbs... so infant to pre-teen, it is rear and forward facing and a booster seat, therefor it doesnt have a height restriction.

answer 5
I don't know if you have already purchsed or not but, if I'm not mistaken, the it lists the height on the side of the seat (i'm not at home so I can't look sorry.)

Just a added tid bit, if the straps won't go over the winter coat, it is recommended that you take that coat off. #The general rule is that you shouldn't have to adjust straps for jackets or coats and if you do they are too big to wear while buckled.)

im not sure about the actual height restriction but my daughter still fit in the harness at 46in, however the harness straps were too short to fit over her bulky winter coat. she actually outgrew the harness by weight before she outgrew it by height and she is in the 60th percentile for height for her age.

No, it's a forward facing only car seat. If you are looking for a comparable car seat that faces rear too I would suggest the Graco MyRide 65. This goes rear facing to 40 pounds and forward to 65. Although that isn't as high as the Nautalis goes I can assure you that it will last until your child is at least 6 if your child is not way above average. I am currently using it for a 7 year old who is 55pounds and like it better than my Britax.
If you are set on getting a seat that rear faces and is a booster in this price range I would suggest the Evenflo Symphony or The First Years True Fit. One to steer clear of is the line from Dorel/Cosco/Eddie Bauer /Safety First(All the same company). They have a seat they refer as a 3 in 1 or Alpha Omega which says it goes to 100 pounds, it does't even come close! I stopped using it when my child was 4 b/c it wouldn't fit with the straps and the adjustable head rest was at the position where there would be minimal side impact protection b/c it went above the shell. Then even at 2 with a winter jacket it seemed like I was stuffing him in the seat. Sorry for the long post but I hopefully saved you some time and energy on car seat shopping. I wish someone had told me before I bought seats I ended up giving away long before my children outgrew them.

Question

Is this product rear facing approved?

The state i live in wants my 9 month old son to stay in a rear facing car seat until he is 2yrs old and if i get pulled over or if the state some how find out that he's under 2 n in a front facing seat i could get in alot of trouble with the law. But my son is currently 22lb & 30in long n is to big for his rear facing seat and God only knows how big he'll be by the time his 1st birthday let alone is 2nd. Plus i REALLY dont want to buy a bigger rear face car seat when im just gonna buy a front face seat in a year from now.

No this car seat is not approved for rear facing. There are car seats similar to this one that are approved for rear facing so that you won't have to buy another one. There are studies to show that an infant should remain rear faced until at least 2 yrs of age and in some countries that's the law. One product is the Graco My ride 65. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what state you live in but I couldn't find one that has a law that a child MUST be in a rear facing car seat until after their 2nd birthday. It's a recommendation but not a law. I'd dbl check with your local pd. To answer your question, no this car seat is not a rear facing car seat.

This is only a forward facing seat. Your 9 month old should still rear face.(most states they must rear face till 1 AND 20lbs) You should look at a convertible car seat this way you can keep him rear facing till 2 or 40lbs(I say 40 cause allot of the convertible seats go to that weight. If he reaches 2 before 40 then if you want you can turn him forward(it is safest rear facing) and keep him in that seat till he reaches the weight limit. I had something like this one just different print. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-Convertible-Car-Seat-Marianne/20753140

This is not a rear facing carseat. Usually states have a weight/height requirement in addition to age. Your son might meet the size requirement to use a forward facing seat. My state is the same way, but it is one year old and/or 21 lbs. My children meet the weight, but not the age. Both of them were in forward facing seats before one year old. However, this is a wonderful seat to buy when you do get a forward facing seat.

Question

Does this seat have a proper seat belt fit?

i saw in the news that out of 60 seats tested, only 15 pass. it just said that the lap belt should fit flat across a child's upper thighs, not across the soft abdomen and the shoulder belt should cross snugly over the middle of a child's shoulder.

There is a place on the booster seat which makes the seat belt lay flat on the legs of the child instead of across the abs. It also has an adjuster so that it is placed properly on the shoulder area when the back is off

answer 2
Yes! I have had this inspected at the local police station and the belt does not touch the child's abdomen. As long as you have the head rest placed in the proper position, the chest belt fits snugly as well. (It is fed through the hole on the head piece) There are molded pieces that hold both belts in place.

The owner's manual has diagrams explaining how to properly align your seatbelts...I would do what you think is best then get it checked by a police officer or someone who checks car seat safety in your area.

It depends on your child, really.
I know earlier/smaller boosterers it does not fit well, but does work nicely on older kids using it as a booster.
But MOST children who grow out of this seat by harness height will fit fine using this as a booster.
If not then there is always many other options, The Nautilus is GREAT as a harness seat. Many use the Cheaper Turbo Boosters "from walmart" & have NO qualms with them, so you wont be out to much if the Nautilus doesn't fit well.

answer 5
Of the multi-use seats, this has a decent fit the majority of the time (the belt guides are built-in to the bottom portion, not the back/abdomen portion like the AlphaOmegas), but a fit is also dependent on how your child is proportioned.
If you are only looking to use it as a booster, you may be better off buying a dedicated booster-only seat (they're also cheaper). However, if you have a few years of harnessing left, this has a great chance of being a good booster when you have outgrown the harness.

It does take up space. If you are just trying to put 2 in one row of your suv they would certainly fit. With ours I can sit in the back of our Hyundai Santa Fe with the car seat one side of me and my oldest daughter (12 yrs old) on my other side. I hope that helped you! It really is a great car seat...I've been hit by a drunk driver with my daughter in it (now I have new one of exactly the same).
