If you are using a DVR service provided by your cable co, the answer is yes - the DVR programming comes through your cable box, so you should be able to record it.

It should work with other units. Naturally, you are probably going to need some extra cables. I believe it comes with standard analog cables but if you have S-Video hook-up on your current DVD player you can copy that way as well. Keep in mind this unit will not copy Disney VHS tapes or videos. Some movies will copy, some will not. I bought it to convert home VHS movies and it does the job.

Your DVR has 2 outputs for the RCA cables (red, yellow and white)-well i have Directv, but i assume all dvrs have it. You have the cables going from dvr output==your dvd recorder input==take a 2nd RCA cable from the dvd recorder output to the tv input.

(An alternate is using coaxial cables from dvr to dvd recorder in the same input-output order)

It starts where your last recording stops. In other words it will not "tape over" what you have already put on the disc. If you have DVD-RW discs, you can erase shows and then it will record back at the start of the disc. Otherwise, it can hold up to 6 one hour shows on the disc.
