Can I record Movies from my TV, & it not stop me with a "copy protect"? Magnavox DVD Rec. #ZC320EM8

You should be able to record anything off the TV without copy protection getting involved.

What you can't do is connect a different DVD player to the ZC320EM8, throw in a DVD that you got at Blockbuster, and try to copy it.

Question

What kind of external tuner or extra cables do I need? Please help!

I have this dvd recorder hooked up to a tv. I can play dvds on it, but I am unable to record tv shows. I understand I need some other cables or some sort of external tuner. Beyond that I have no idea what cables I need and where to hook them up or what kind of external source I need or where to buy one. Please help with as much detail as possible for my not so electronic mind:)

You have to have a digital cable or satellite box.

You connect the cable box to the back of the DVD Recorder using the same type of cables that you currently have running from the recorder to the TV.

Yes. This is why I bought it too. Connect the VCR to the front inputs (or back, I picked front because it was easier). Use the instruction manual to see what channel to turn to to see what you are looking at (I think front input is E-2, the back E-1). I converted our home movies DVD and had no problem. If you buy this the user manual will explain everything on how to hook it up. You can also use this like a VCR and program it to record your favorite shows.

Yes, it is very easy to hook up either from the front or the back. However this will not copy Disney movies. I have been able to copy many of my VHS to DVD using this unit and have been pleased with the results but not everything will copy (and there are ways around that if you google Sima CT-200 or Sima GO-DV 2000).

Question

Does this have a TV tuner or not?

The specifications show that it has a tuner and all the channels it can receive. However, the initial description of the product shows that it does NOT have a tuner. So does it or doesn't it???

I don't think this one has a tuner but I have my cable hooked up thru it and it picks up all my channels (it is in my daughter's room without an HD box). I can get all the channels just fine in her room. Could not figure out how to get it hooked up to HD box in living room. There is another unit that is a step up above this one, costs a little more but it does say it has a tuner. Personally, I would get the one with the digital tuner.

Question

connecting dvd recorder to dvr

I have a satellite dvr and would like to record items recorded on it. How do I connect the dvd recorder to the dvr? I have tried several different ways and can only get the dvds to play and not record. Also, is it possible to record to the dvd recorder without directly connecting it to the dvr...there are other tvs in the house that can record on the dvr without being directly connected to it. One more thing, should I see the setup screen on the channel that the tv is set to for the satellite?

Your DVR has 2 outputs for the RCA cables (red, yellow and white)-well i have Directv, but i assume all dvrs have it. You have the cables going from dvr output==your dvd recorder input==take a 2nd RCA cable from the dvd recorder output to the tv input.

(An alternate is using coaxial cables from dvr to dvd recorder in the same input-output order)

**Directv has told me that the picture isn't going to be as clear in recording since the shows are copyrighted but if there is a S-video port by the input of your RCA cables (S-video substitues your yellow video cable; if it can be connected from dvd recorder to TV), it might be a little sharper, i'm theorizing. I'm hoping to buy a dvd recorder soon myself.

***MAKE SURE CHANNEL ON DVD RECORDER (IF ITS THE SAME AS VCR SETUP) IS THE SAME AS TV AND DVR.: "video" channel on tv is considered "av1, or av2 (if dvd recorder uses the same name on screen as my VCR) *******

I just successfully used this method to connect my vcr to my Directv, but unfortunately its a dinosaur mono vcr.

Hope I explained it well enough :-/

Question

Copy protection?

I recently purchased a DVD-VCR combo that has copy protection that will not allow me to record some movies on non-premium cable channels, such as Encore. Instead, it comes up with a message that the movie is copyrighted. My previous DVD recorder did not have this problem. Does anyone know if this Magnavox model or anything else sold by Walmart will allow me to record all movies on regular cable TV channels?

This DVD recorder will record some, some it will not. Sometimes the "Copy protection" will pop up. There IS a way around it though. Google search for a device called GODV! Sima CT-2000. This will help by-pass that "error". Be prepared to pay a hefty price for one. I have one on my DVD recorder and it has never failed when backing up any video
