Definitely wouldn't purchase for 4 yr old. Thought the same thing for my 5 yr old who plays with older brothers' dsi. The didj is supposed to be for K-th grade level games but I had a hard time finding younger level game. I returned the didj and got the leapster2 which he loves.

Do I absolutely have to have an internet connection for my children to play Leapster or Didj products?
I am thinking about buying my 9 yr old daughter a Didj and my 5 yr old son a Leapster 2. I don't really want to have to connect to the internet for them to be able to play them and I dont want to download anything. If someone could please correspond with me about these products, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you :)

If you buy the game cartridges that are available online you shouldn't need the internet. We did use the internet for ours but it does give you the options to play game cartridges instead.
