with out a memory card I am able to take just about 16 pics. with a 1gb how many more would that allow me ? and would a 2gb be a better deal for me?

Absolutely, go with the 1GB! You will get tons of photos! AT LEAST 500! Yes, 2GB would be better, of course. AND, with the media card, you only have to insert the actual card into your computer or printer. SOOOOO much easier!

Yes. The brand is not important. All you need to worry about is the type of memory card your camera takes, (i.e. SD, SDHC, xD, etc...)
